Facebook is a lot more public than many people believe and information and photos posted on the social network can often be seen by more than just friends and family. On May 29, 2012 an Australian family was robbed at knifepoint just hours after their 17-year-old daughter toke a picture at her grandmother's home of her grandmother's "large sum of cash" life savings and posted it on Facebook.
The women inside the home told the criminals that the girl who posted the photo no longer lives at that address.
The men searched the house and took a small amount of cash and other personal property before leaving the house.
No one was injured during the incident.
Before posting anything online, take a moment to think about how your post could possibly hurt you. Posting photos of valuable collections and vacation details, etc., on Facebook may get you in trouble.
